western sahara

laayoune and el marsa

long ways to go to reach good old nouak

not a lot to see out here

'cept for some camels

here they are

first (and only) stop in laayoune was a big, beautiful, McDonalds in the center of the city

we stayed overnight in El Marsa which (to me) felt like a pleasant version of Santa Monica

on our way out of el marsa we met a hamza who gave us camel milk and tea. then we drove off to Dakhla

dakhla

we stopped for pizza on the road to dakhla

then for a respite on this epic cliff

first indication of dakhla was the kites off in the distance

our car was shakey on the way to dakhla and we ended up taking an extra day there to get the car fixed.

the extra day let us try kiting

there's a big kiting community on the beaches of dakhla. totally separate from the town. very western.

so long dakhla. we're headed for mauritania
